Science & Technology Heritage Gallery

The gallery on Indian Heritage in Science & Technology showcases India’s extraordinary scientific journey spanning over 4,500 years. Through engaging exhibits, it highlights how a rich scientific and technological culture evolved alongside art and literature on Indian soil. The gallery presents insights from ancient Sanskrit texts that reveal advanced concepts of matter, atomism, cosmic evolution, and mathematics, including the path-breaking idea of zero, powers of ten, and early methods of calculation that later influenced the world.
Visitors can explore India’s pioneering contributions to astronomy, with displays on early studies of celestial movements and the monumental Jantar Mantar observatories of Sawai Jai Singh II. The gallery also features the foundations of Ayurveda through renowned texts such as Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Astanga Hridaya, which continue to guide modern medicine. Moving into modern times, the exhibition showcases India’s remarkable progress in space science, nuclear technology, information technology, biotechnology, agriculture, energy, and transportation, underscoring the nation’s journey towards self-reliance and global leadership. Together, these exhibits demonstrate how India’s rich scientific heritage continues to inspire innovation and shape the nation’s future.
